Race Recap 2022 FLE # 7 - Highway to Haile's - Newberry, FL

Haile's Trails is a singletrack mountain bike trail in Newberry, Florida. A popular cross-country race loop that's only rideable during race weekends. The property is only open on FSC / FLE race weekends. On Saturday, the trails are open to everyone. On Sunday, they are only open to registered racers.      The racecourse views are breathtaking, the singletrack is in great condition and flows well, and you will be tested by the rugged terrain. Mainly the chunky rocks that are scattered around an old rock quarry. There are many elevation changes using the quarry terrain and medium to long climbs throughout. This makes the racing exciting.        The 2022 version of the Highway to Haile's presented by  Gone Riding had the course running in the opposite direction. The race had racers doing 5 laps on a approximately 6 mile course. With a big turn out the stage was set for an action packed day.      This race demands you go hard in every section of old quarry singketrack to hold y

Throwback - Pats Peak MTB Festival Race 2015

The Pats Peak Mountain Bike Festival is a Mountain Biking race in Henniker, New Hampshire. The event is held at Pats Peak, which is an independent alpine ski resort. This place has a never-ending circuit of switch-backs and climbing, which is precisely what anyone signing up to race on a ski mountain should expect. The XC course is open for riding all season. The race lap contains 7.1 miles and 897 feet of vertical per lap. In my opinion the hardest XC course in the New England series. On this day the cross-country race track climbed high on the mountain and offered good spectating for downhillers taking the easy way up on the lift. Race Recap 2021 FLE # 7 - 30 /60 mile - Santos Classic

The 2021 FLE #7 - 30/60 mile MTB race took place on a 6.8 mile loop of pure single track at the famous Santos MTB Park. Santos boasts 81,290 acres of pure off-road riding bliss. Santos is the largest and best known mountain biking park in the Ocala, Florida area.       Unles s you like the heat, humidity and energy sucking wet trails, you were very lucky to miss this race! I don't do well with extreme heat. The temperature that was displayed on my Garmin at the start of the race was 92 degrees and relative humidity of 77 percent. From the first climb until my back wheel crossed the finish line the fun was out of the bag -- the party was on survival mode as it was a sweat fest. My sweat drenched my kit and was dripping into my eyes. I wasn't anywhere near muscle fatigued, or any other type of worn down, it was just hot, hot and more hot. This was my first mountain bike race that offered such extreme riding conditions.      I knew with all the recent rain that it would be we

Six Gap of North Georgia

This challenging and breathtaking route will take you on a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. The Gaps has sections with sustained grades of 9 to 12 percent, so be ready for some serious climbing. As the ride progresses don’t forget to pay attention to your surroundings, as you will be experiencing some of the most stunning landscapes. The  entire loop including the short 3 mile US 129 connector is 77 miles long. The southern loop is 35 miles and the northern loop is 38 miles. Each of the six segments includes crossing through a mountain “gap” or low pass, hence the name Six Gap. Four of these gaps are at points where the Appalachian Trail crosses the roadway. Woody’s Gap - will reward your hard day’s efforts with a long and scenic descent.     The Six Gaps is a tough but fun ride and is one of my personal favorites -- take on the challenge and you won’t be disappointed. 230 Washington St Weymouth, MA 02188 (781) 337-7125                         Please follow us:  Facebook I

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 6 - 30 /60 mile - Markham Masher

The 2021 FLE #6 - 30/60 - Markham Masher, as the state racing season moves closer to the midway point, the racing venue moved to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary, FL. The course consisted of 8 miles of flowing single track located in pine scrub and oak hammock of the Wekiva Springs State Park. The sun was out, the humidity was low and temperatures and trails were perfect for this annual South Florida stop on the FSC circuit. The race course was fast and flowy but also demanding because of all the tight and twisty turns.  Trail Map The start and brief       Going into the race, I felt great. I had my bike dialed, I knew my fitness was good, and felt like I had good knowledge  about the course. Everything worked out perfectly, aside from a close encounter with a non racer. The individual chose to ride the trail in opposite direction of the race course. We encountered each other on a blind corner. I was able to keep my bike upright but had to come to a stop. Other than that, I felt
