Six Gap of North Georgia

This challenging and breathtaking route will take you on a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. The Gaps has sections with sustained grades of 9 to 12 percent, so be ready for some serious climbing. As the ride progresses don’t forget to pay attention to your surroundings, as you will be experiencing some of the most stunning landscapes. The  entire loop including the short 3 mile US 129 connector is 77 miles long. The southern loop is 35 miles and the northern loop is 38 miles. Each of the six segments includes crossing through a mountain “gap” or low pass, hence the name Six Gap. Four of these gaps are at points where the Appalachian Trail crosses the roadway. Woody’s Gap - will reward your hard day’s efforts with a long and scenic descent.     The Six Gaps is a tough but fun ride and is one of my personal favorites -- take on the challenge and you won’t be disappointed. 230 Washington St Weymouth, MA 02188 (781) 337-7125       ...

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 6 - 30 /60 mile - Markham Masher

The 2021 FLE #6 - 30/60 - Markham Masher, as the state racing season moves closer to the midway point, the racing venue moved to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary, FL. The course consisted of 8 miles of flowing single track located in pine scrub and oak hammock of the Wekiva Springs State Park. The sun was out, the humidity was low and temperatures and trails were perfect for this annual South Florida stop on the FSC circuit. The race course was fast and flowy but also demanding because of all the tight and twisty turns.  Trail Map The start and brief       Going into the race, I felt great. I had my bike dialed, I knew my fitness was good, and felt like I had good knowledge  about the course. Everything worked out perfectly, aside from a close encounter with a non racer. The individual chose to ride the trail in opposite direction of the race course. We encountered each other on a blind corner. I was able to keep my ...

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 5 - 30 /60 mile - Santos Classic

The 2021 FLE #5 - 30/60 - mile Vortex, known as the Santos Classic, took place on 8 miles of pure single track. The course offered lots of punchy climbs along with lots of varying terrain. I had already pre-registered online, the night prior it was calling for rain. The continuous showers throughout the race made for some interesting corners and lines. The rain made it open season for the technically superior riders to excel.        I was not super aggressive at the start like I normally am for XC races. I just kind of took off with the group and settled in around mid pack to start. My goal was to get through that first mile with no issues and then settle into a good pace when we hit the flatter single track. The first mile consisted of a newer section with off camber climbs. With the rain this section seemed to challenge many of the riders. I really had no clue who the fast guys were in this group and I honestly did not pay ...

Blue Hills State Park - Cold War Loop

Blue Hills State Park located in Massachusetts. The park spans across the surrounding towns of Milton, Canton, and Quincy. Home to over 7000-acres of land. Both intermediate and expert riders alike will enjoy the trails of the Blue Hills. Single and double tracks can be found throughout the reservation, with many trails leading to various highpoints that overlook the Boston skyline. This video provides a glimpse of us mountain biking on the Ponkapoag section of the park. This loop is fun and very fast. The flowly singletrack and punchy climbs make for a great training loop.                                                                                                               ...

Race Recap 2021 Natchaug Epic

The Natchaug Epic, aka "The Quiet Hell", is a bike tour of Windham County, Conn., held the last weekend in March. Members of Class Act Racing enjoyed the route of 75 miles with 19 unpaved sectors and 5,000 feet of elevation. Twisting roads, scenic views. It’s not so bad, right?      The 19 sections of the dirt/gravel really spread out the course. The Connecticut roads were absolutely stunning with lots of farms, horses, newly green fields and not an automobile in site.        The course contained lots of climbing There were lots of wood cutting trails, this allowed for sticks bouncing off of wheels, puddles of questionable depth. Class Act's Luciano used these sections to his advantage. When the trail turned to rocky and rooty he was able to sneak around some of the tentative riders.       Southern New England had no snow on this weekend. The roads were crystal clear. You could definitely tell who the roadies were and who t...

Race Recap 2021 Coconut Cup Series #6 - Caloosahatchee Regional Park

Caloosahatchee Regional Park  ( better known as CRP to riders ) in Alva, Florida hosted the Coconut Cup # 6 Southern Florida Series which is a Gone Riding race production.       The 11 mile course was ran counter clockwise this year and as has been done for the past few years most classes completed the race by riding an extra "short loop" to get the mileage and times in line. The course undulated through densely vegetated landscapes, which varied between pine flatwoods, cypress swamps, scrub oaks and oak hammocks. With lots of  narrow sandy single track, some areas offering a bit more challenge with cypress knots, roots, and rocks to wend around. These features provided for an interesting race day!       I had an incredibly slow start and played it safe over the starting humps that were scatted on the initial start loop. I was forced to take the B line when I saw a pileup at the first mound. This allowed me t...
