Freetown 50 MTB Race 2019

      Freetown50 @EFTA NECS Marathon and Headbanger Finales Presented by @RockHardRacing, @Sparkbrs, @EnduranceThreads & @MayflowerBrewing

The Freetown 50, in its seventh year running, boasted some course changes to help eliminate some lower sections with standing water. This simply meant more boney, technical, rocky singletrack and slower race times then previous years. Rock gardens were plentiful.  Choosing good lines and maintaining momentum were key to staying on the bike and riding a fast lap. The middle of the course was where racers could gain some time and relax a bit more on the bike handling skills with some smoother trails and dirt road sections.  Around mile 15, the rough singletrack started up again for several miles ending on some bone rattling rock gardens before finishing out the lap.

The Freetown 50 is an experience,  It’s also the hardest thing you’ll ever do. Don’t take our word for that, ask your friends that have finished. Better yet, ask your friends that haven’t. This course is no joke, and does not favor any particular type of rider, but it's supposed to be hard.  The theme for this year’s race was a take on @ghostbusters having the mentality of “We ain't afraid of no rocks” helped us complete this TOUGH race. Big shot out to Who ya gonna call? @rockhardracing for an awesome event.

Race setup for the demanding course.

The Freetown 50 Top Cap is a badge of honor for your bicycle. Your bike deserves it after what you put it through. You can’t buy them. Volunteers don’t get them. Even the Race Director doesn’t have one. This can only be earned after 50 hard fought miles on our favorite trails.

Six Gap of North Georgia

This challenging and breathtaking route will take you on a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. The Gaps has sections with sustained grades of 9 to 12 percent, so be ready for some serious climbing. As the ride progresses don’t forget to pay attention to your surroundings, as you will be experiencing some of the most stunning landscapes. The  entire loop including the short 3 mile US 129 connector is 77 miles long. The southern loop is 35 miles and the northern loop is 38 miles. Each of the six segments includes crossing through a mountain “gap” or low pass, hence the name Six Gap. Four of these gaps are at points where the Appalachian Trail crosses the roadway. Woody’s Gap - will reward your hard day’s efforts with a long and scenic descent.     The Six Gaps is a tough but fun ride and is one of my personal favorites -- take on the challenge and you won’t be disappointed. 230 Washington St Weymouth, MA 02188 (781) 337-7125                         Please follow us:  Facebook I

🍁 Maple Is My Staple 🍁

🍁      Maple Is My Staple  🍁      Bike wheels are prone to wear and tear over many miles ridden. So, if you’re a cyclist, replacing your wheels is inevitable. However, getting replacement wheels can be difficult with the many options available on the market. Good carbon fiber wheels are supposed to be strong, durable and lightweight. I opted for a set of  Maple  and couldn’t be happier with one race season under my belt on these wheels. Here are a few reasons why. Maple offers excellent perf ormance for it’s price, specifically designed for their toughness. These wheels have been battle tested in New England on rough trails and rougher roads. This has provided Maple with the ultimate proving grounds to create wheels for everyday use and not just specific wheels for racing or training. The most affordable “one wheelset” is extremely versatile and can handle any terrain encountered through gravel, cyclocross, rocks, roots and sketchy stuff that you probably shouldn’t ride but

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 6 - 30 /60 mile - Markham Masher

The 2021 FLE #6 - 30/60 - Markham Masher, as the state racing season moves closer to the midway point, the racing venue moved to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary, FL. The course consisted of 8 miles of flowing single track located in pine scrub and oak hammock of the Wekiva Springs State Park. The sun was out, the humidity was low and temperatures and trails were perfect for this annual South Florida stop on the FSC circuit. The race course was fast and flowy but also demanding because of all the tight and twisty turns.  Trail Map The start and brief       Going into the race, I felt great. I had my bike dialed, I knew my fitness was good, and felt like I had good knowledge  about the course. Everything worked out perfectly, aside from a close encounter with a non racer. The individual chose to ride the trail in opposite direction of the race course. We encountered each other on a blind corner. I was able to keep my bike upright but had to come to a stop. Other than that, I felt
