Race Recap 2021 FLE # 3 - 25/50/75 mile - Hammer Head

First, let me just say that racing in Florida is legit. This is a fantastic event for a community of riders who are really into riding and racing. And if anyone is picturing just flat, sandy single track, let me clear that up for you right now: this is among the fastest courses I’ve ever raced, no kidding. there was more of a mix of tech and speed throughout the 25 mile lap. This year, they mixed it up by making it 20 miles of pure singletrack with lots of punchy hills followed by 5 1/2 of mixed terrain. Fortunately we’ve gotten some rain over the last month so the trail was packed pretty good outside of a couple sandy spots.

I just went in on race day and figured I’d learn the course as the day went on. As there was some confusion on the route the day prior. It was good to see so many new friends out there racing, some for the first time, and some familiar competitors as well. To maintain the health & safety of the riders,
Dave Berger released us from the start line in small groups. I might have well been in a road race the pace was so fast. Absolutely blazing trying to hold onto the front group I was just pushing as hard as I could to get to the woods in front of the pack, I was happy to be there in the front 15-20 riders.

With my first attempt at the hammer Head. I learned rather quickly that sometimes you’re the hammer, sometimes you’re the nail. I was definitely the nail at this race…mid way through the race I suffered a mechanical. My bottom bracket seized quickly teaching me another lesson. The bottom bracket might not be the most exciting part of a bike, but without it you'd basically stuck. This put a stop to my race pace. I opted to just ride the course to the finish.

Overall, this was a successful weekend and a great start to my 2021 racing season. A big thankyou to our sponsors for their continued support! Athlossports, ESI Grips, Honey Stinger, Vittoria Tires, Togs,  Your contributions is what helps make our program a success.

Six Gap of North Georgia

This challenging and breathtaking route will take you on a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. The Gaps has sections with sustained grades of 9 to 12 percent, so be ready for some serious climbing. As the ride progresses don’t forget to pay attention to your surroundings, as you will be experiencing some of the most stunning landscapes. The  entire loop including the short 3 mile US 129 connector is 77 miles long. The southern loop is 35 miles and the northern loop is 38 miles. Each of the six segments includes crossing through a mountain “gap” or low pass, hence the name Six Gap. Four of these gaps are at points where the Appalachian Trail crosses the roadway. Woody’s Gap - will reward your hard day’s efforts with a long and scenic descent.     The Six Gaps is a tough but fun ride and is one of my personal favorites -- take on the challenge and you won’t be disappointed. 230 Washington St Weymouth, MA 02188 (781) 337-7125                         Please follow us:  Facebook I

🍁 Maple Is My Staple 🍁

🍁      Maple Is My Staple  🍁      Bike wheels are prone to wear and tear over many miles ridden. So, if you’re a cyclist, replacing your wheels is inevitable. However, getting replacement wheels can be difficult with the many options available on the market. Good carbon fiber wheels are supposed to be strong, durable and lightweight. I opted for a set of  Maple  and couldn’t be happier with one race season under my belt on these wheels. Here are a few reasons why. Maple offers excellent perf ormance for it’s price, specifically designed for their toughness. These wheels have been battle tested in New England on rough trails and rougher roads. This has provided Maple with the ultimate proving grounds to create wheels for everyday use and not just specific wheels for racing or training. The most affordable “one wheelset” is extremely versatile and can handle any terrain encountered through gravel, cyclocross, rocks, roots and sketchy stuff that you probably shouldn’t ride but

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 6 - 30 /60 mile - Markham Masher

The 2021 FLE #6 - 30/60 - Markham Masher, as the state racing season moves closer to the midway point, the racing venue moved to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary, FL. The course consisted of 8 miles of flowing single track located in pine scrub and oak hammock of the Wekiva Springs State Park. The sun was out, the humidity was low and temperatures and trails were perfect for this annual South Florida stop on the FSC circuit. The race course was fast and flowy but also demanding because of all the tight and twisty turns.  Trail Map The start and brief       Going into the race, I felt great. I had my bike dialed, I knew my fitness was good, and felt like I had good knowledge  about the course. Everything worked out perfectly, aside from a close encounter with a non racer. The individual chose to ride the trail in opposite direction of the race course. We encountered each other on a blind corner. I was able to keep my bike upright but had to come to a stop. Other than that, I felt
