We’re going RACING! (Pre-riding the FLE#3 Race Course)

Looks like 2021 is off to the races! Class Act Racing has 1 rider @robmhere to race the Florida Endurance series #3 Hammer Head 25/50/75 mile mountain bike race. The FLE #3 - Hammer Head, hosted by GoneRiding.com, will take place in Ocala, Florida at the Landbridge Trailhead

Florida is known for many things, including alligators, manatees, retirees, tan lines, but mountain biking is working its way into an up and coming role in this regard. Many of you, like me, might at first wonder how a land mass as flat as this might offer any real value to riders. Such is the case in Ocala, where the Santos Trails continue to grow in size and distinction. The lack of topographic opportunities hasn't dissuaded the vast and passionate local riders from spending most of their free time riding their bikes in the woods. Santos is one of Florida’s most renowned trail systems. Founded on an old rock quarry in 1993, the Ocala Mountain Bike Association has been building and maintaining this trail system for decades! Santos offers a wide range of trails for all skill levels.

Pre-riding the course for a race is an important part of your race prep and can be the difference between not finishing and a podium finish. If done incorrectly it can also wreck your legs and end up making for a miserable weekend. Rob opted to take the first lap at an easy pace. This allowed him to carefully analyze all the technical sections. This is wear you should take note, if you're unable to ride a technical section, now is the time to stop and practice. other things to consider are you should analyze the climbs. How long are they, how steep, are they technical and slow or smooth and fast? How will you attack each climb? Ask yourself if you have the correct gearing on your bike for the climbs. Make a mental note of where each climb begins so that in the race you are ready and in good position before each hill.

For the second lap of the race course. This is known as the “hot lap” and this is the time to start piecing things all together. The second lap should be done at a higher speed and intensity; maybe not true race pace but definitely a hard effort.

One drawback to pre riding the course is that it can make you feel exhausted. You should be careful and strategic with how and when you pre ride the course. Don’t do 3 hot laps on the course the day before the race because you feel amazing and you love the course and you’re just having too much fun. For success on race day to happen, you have to be ready and be prepared. Part of that preparation is having no surprises on race day. By doing your homework, you know what lines to take, you know how long each climb is and what kind of effort to put in, you know when to eat and when to drink.

Six Gap of North Georgia

This challenging and breathtaking route will take you on a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. The Gaps has sections with sustained grades of 9 to 12 percent, so be ready for some serious climbing. As the ride progresses don’t forget to pay attention to your surroundings, as you will be experiencing some of the most stunning landscapes. The  entire loop including the short 3 mile US 129 connector is 77 miles long. The southern loop is 35 miles and the northern loop is 38 miles. Each of the six segments includes crossing through a mountain “gap” or low pass, hence the name Six Gap. Four of these gaps are at points where the Appalachian Trail crosses the roadway. Woody’s Gap - will reward your hard day’s efforts with a long and scenic descent.     The Six Gaps is a tough but fun ride and is one of my personal favorites -- take on the challenge and you won’t be disappointed. 230 Washington St Weymouth, MA 02188 (781) 337-7125                         Please follow us:  Facebook I

🍁 Maple Is My Staple 🍁

🍁      Maple Is My Staple  🍁      Bike wheels are prone to wear and tear over many miles ridden. So, if you’re a cyclist, replacing your wheels is inevitable. However, getting replacement wheels can be difficult with the many options available on the market. Good carbon fiber wheels are supposed to be strong, durable and lightweight. I opted for a set of  Maple  and couldn’t be happier with one race season under my belt on these wheels. Here are a few reasons why. Maple offers excellent perf ormance for it’s price, specifically designed for their toughness. These wheels have been battle tested in New England on rough trails and rougher roads. This has provided Maple with the ultimate proving grounds to create wheels for everyday use and not just specific wheels for racing or training. The most affordable “one wheelset” is extremely versatile and can handle any terrain encountered through gravel, cyclocross, rocks, roots and sketchy stuff that you probably shouldn’t ride but

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 6 - 30 /60 mile - Markham Masher

The 2021 FLE #6 - 30/60 - Markham Masher, as the state racing season moves closer to the midway point, the racing venue moved to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary, FL. The course consisted of 8 miles of flowing single track located in pine scrub and oak hammock of the Wekiva Springs State Park. The sun was out, the humidity was low and temperatures and trails were perfect for this annual South Florida stop on the FSC circuit. The race course was fast and flowy but also demanding because of all the tight and twisty turns.  Trail Map The start and brief       Going into the race, I felt great. I had my bike dialed, I knew my fitness was good, and felt like I had good knowledge  about the course. Everything worked out perfectly, aside from a close encounter with a non racer. The individual chose to ride the trail in opposite direction of the race course. We encountered each other on a blind corner. I was able to keep my bike upright but had to come to a stop. Other than that, I felt
