Race Recap 2021 USAC Florida Cup / SERC #1 - Hailes Trails

This year the SERC season started in Newberry, Florida at Hailes Trails. Racing at the famous Haile's Trails is a once or twice a year thing so you've got to grab that chance. This is such a great place to race on so many levels. The place has it all from challenging your technical skills, to your desire of conquering the steeps and it will truly test your heart at the same time that it captures it.

The mid-morning raindrops left the rocks temporarily slick for the Category 1 crew, but as the skies cleared and the conditions for the racers changed to firm and tacky by the start of the race. The race started out fast. With a long straight away leading to a sharp left hander into the singetrack. Racers jockeyed hard for position. As having the lead into the woods would have an advantage. I was able to enter the woods in seventh. I knew I had some work to do. Instead of pancaking I opted to not let it bother me and to trust my skills along with fitness.

The race demands you go hard in every section of old quarry singketrack to hold your position and then try to hang on in the fire road sections. I settled into a good group after the first section of punchy hills and about halfway through the first lap, I put in a couple of big efforts and made a few passes on the singletrack. After I completed the first lap I was feeling the effects of those efforts and had to dig deep. Since this was my second race back since my broken ankle. I tried my best to keep the pace up for lap two and carry as much speed as possible around each tree and rock on my way to the finish. It was great to be riding the course on a perfect day. I am pleased to have finished fourth for the day!

I would like to sincerely say thank you to our sponsors for having such a caring and giving heart because without their support for events like this  it would not have been possible. Thank you ESI Grips, Honey Stinger, Togs and Vittoria Tires

Six Gap of North Georgia

This challenging and breathtaking route will take you on a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. The Gaps has sections with sustained grades of 9 to 12 percent, so be ready for some serious climbing. As the ride progresses don’t forget to pay attention to your surroundings, as you will be experiencing some of the most stunning landscapes. The  entire loop including the short 3 mile US 129 connector is 77 miles long. The southern loop is 35 miles and the northern loop is 38 miles. Each of the six segments includes crossing through a mountain “gap” or low pass, hence the name Six Gap. Four of these gaps are at points where the Appalachian Trail crosses the roadway. Woody’s Gap - will reward your hard day’s efforts with a long and scenic descent.     The Six Gaps is a tough but fun ride and is one of my personal favorites -- take on the challenge and you won’t be disappointed. 230 Washington St Weymouth, MA 02188 (781) 337-7125                         Please follow us:  Facebook I

🍁 Maple Is My Staple 🍁

🍁      Maple Is My Staple  🍁      Bike wheels are prone to wear and tear over many miles ridden. So, if you’re a cyclist, replacing your wheels is inevitable. However, getting replacement wheels can be difficult with the many options available on the market. Good carbon fiber wheels are supposed to be strong, durable and lightweight. I opted for a set of  Maple  and couldn’t be happier with one race season under my belt on these wheels. Here are a few reasons why. Maple offers excellent perf ormance for it’s price, specifically designed for their toughness. These wheels have been battle tested in New England on rough trails and rougher roads. This has provided Maple with the ultimate proving grounds to create wheels for everyday use and not just specific wheels for racing or training. The most affordable “one wheelset” is extremely versatile and can handle any terrain encountered through gravel, cyclocross, rocks, roots and sketchy stuff that you probably shouldn’t ride but

Race Recap 2021 FLE # 6 - 30 /60 mile - Markham Masher

The 2021 FLE #6 - 30/60 - Markham Masher, as the state racing season moves closer to the midway point, the racing venue moved to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary, FL. The course consisted of 8 miles of flowing single track located in pine scrub and oak hammock of the Wekiva Springs State Park. The sun was out, the humidity was low and temperatures and trails were perfect for this annual South Florida stop on the FSC circuit. The race course was fast and flowy but also demanding because of all the tight and twisty turns.  Trail Map The start and brief       Going into the race, I felt great. I had my bike dialed, I knew my fitness was good, and felt like I had good knowledge  about the course. Everything worked out perfectly, aside from a close encounter with a non racer. The individual chose to ride the trail in opposite direction of the race course. We encountered each other on a blind corner. I was able to keep my bike upright but had to come to a stop. Other than that, I felt
